Today, was, fun!
Each group did two activities each: four groups doing surfing and canoeing; the other four doing climbing and high ropes.
When you ask the children what they found hardest about surfing, they’ll be fibbing if they tell you anything but getting their wetsuit on. There were times three adults were hoisting children in the air striving to get those neoprene devils on, but we always got there. Being in the water, in the Cornish sun, catching waves that had travelled in swells over thousands of miles was a dream. Many stood up. Everyone smiled. It was amazing!!

The canal in Bude is a far more gentle, serene place than the ocean but canoeing on it requires different skills: patience, determination and teamwork. There were races, games and quite a few ended up swimming again. I’m not sure the ducks appreciated us much.

Many of you will know that climbing and high ropes require courage and a will to overcome your fears. This Year 6 cohort has that endeavour in abundance.

It was so wonderful seeing everyone encouraging each other and willing friends to succeed.

Determination, teamwork, resilience, support, skill, courage…no wonder everyone was knackered by the time they sat down to their chicken burgers.
