Music

At St Mary’s we aim to instil a lifelong love and appreciation for music. Pupils enter Collective Worships listening to musicians from different genres of music, exposing them to the richness of both modern and classical music. Singing Collective Worships are led by a music specialist to ensure high quality outcomes alongside the emotional and spiritual wellbeing achieved through choral performances. Our school choirs enable pupils to develop and showcase their talents. We work closely alongside Richmond Music Arts to provide instrument tuition: all Year 2 pupils learn to play the recorder and all Year 4 pupils learn a brass instrument. Weekly lessons develop the key skills of listening, performing and evaluating music. As pupils progress though the school, they further explore how music is created including dynamics, structure and musical notations.
