Eighteen Richmond schools battled it out at the annual Battle of the Books competition for year 4 children held at St James’s RC primary school. The team of 8 children from St. Mary’s has been working hard since December reading and studying the 10 set texts.
The children worked brilliantly as a team and supported and encouraged each other in the Quiz, the Art section and in creating an improvised drama piece that had to meet set criteria. They had to work on their own throughout the day managing their tasks and being creative.
They were rewarded with a first place in the Quiz section and their faces were a picture when it was announced that they had won the overall competition and were Richmond Borough Battle of the Books champions.
This is a first for the school and Mrs Turner expressed how proud she was. Their success is a testament to their consistent hard work and focussed effort during the year and a real enthusiasm for reading, even when reading a text that may not be a favourite. Well done to all and many thanks for the wonderful support from parents.
