Welcome to St Mary’s Reception 2020
We thank you for choosing St Mary’s and we are delighted to welcome you! We value the trust you place in us to educate your child. You are all entering a very exciting stage of your child’s life and we are looking forward to sharing this with you.
To enable you and your child to make a smooth transition to school would like you to read the information provided and there are some forms to fill out. You will find links to these below:
Welcome Presentation Video for Parents
Usually we invite all new parents in to school to meet our Reception teaching team and Headteacher, Mrs Abrahams, to outline the year ahead – what to expect and how to prepare. Unfortunately, this will not be possible this year. However, we have created a video presentation which replicates all that we would normally share. Please do watch it. Separate videos introducing the site and staff will be sent home to each child; the video below is aimed for parents rather than children. With Home Visits also usually scheduled for this time, we have arrange Zoom virtual meetings with each family so parents and children can meet their new teacher and teaching assistant.
Please also take time to read our St Mary’s Handbook for Reception Parents 2020-21

In Reception we use an observation system called ‘Tapestry’. This is a secure online system which allows teachers to keep record of and assess your child’s work and achievements in a ‘journal’. Tapestry is an integral part of your child’s time in Reception and a key requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage profile is parental involvement. Please see our Tapestry User Agreement for you to sign and return to us in the Admissions Documents section above. Further Tapestry information: https://tapestry.info/parents-carers.html
All St Mary’s CE Primary School children are expected to wear the school uniform. Our goal is for our children to feel included, proud to wear their uniform and smartly represent St Mary’s at all times. For a comprehensive list of our uniform expectations, please look in the St Mary’s Handbook on this page or at our Uniform Policy on our School Polices page.
To maintain consistency across the uniform the majority of the items are available to buy through our two local suppliers. Both suppliers are currently operating a booking system to visit the store or you can also purchase online on their websites:

FOSM – Friends of St Mary’s
Friends of St Mary’s (FoSM) is our school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and a registered charity. They provide an opportunity for all parents and teachers to work together towards raising funds for our school in a fun and sociable way: FoSM Homepage
Connect with other parents: FoSM uses an app called CLASSLIST for communications with parents. It enables parents at our school to connect with each other and stay in the loop about what’s happening at St. Mary’s. Classlist is fully GDPR compliant and is the only way that parent contact information can be shared
We would recommend parents to read the following policies. All policies are available on our website Policies Page
- CHILD PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING
- FOOD & HEALTHY EATING (and please read our Nuts and Allergies information)
- DATA PROTECTION POLICY
St Mary’s Fund
St Mary’s Fund is an increasingly important way our school enables some of the very best learning and curriculum opportunities as we continue to be underfunded by Government. Please do read this overview and consider supporting: St Mary’s Fund – Letter for New Parents 2020
