‘Duw genes Kernow’ is Cornish for ‘Goodbye Cornwall’. Cornwall has a long and distinct history, culture and language of its own – even lobbying for independence from the UK. Certainly spending time there gives you the feel you are somewhere special – a breath of fresh air.

Our eight groups have loved their time at Adventure Bude.

This was the first year St Mary’s have visited Adventure Bude and we will certainly be returning. I really cannot stress how excellent the provision has been. Very few centres nationally offer such diversity in one location: mountain boarding, surfing in sea, kayaking in the canal, high ropes, rock climbing and caving – wow! But, what really has made all that so special was the energy, enthusiasm, humour and care given by the instructors and centre staff – truly first class. I’ve worked with lots in my time and these have been the best. Thank you to them.

Then, of course, there are seven adults from St Mary’s who deserve a special mention, who have given their time away from their families to make the trip possible. The centre said school staff often don’t take part in activities but this crew dived in – literally – to every task, laughing, supporting and struggling with the children. Thank you Mrs Zawada, Miss Caspersz, Miss van Gelder, Mrs Power, Mrs Cromey, Mr Cadman and Mr Harvey.

One last thank you, to the children. Boys and girls, I hope your parents show you this blog so you can read how great you’ve been. You kept smiling and gave it a go – we couldn’t have asked for more (well maybe cleaner rooms this morning!). A great way to start your final year at St Mary’s, bonding with new classmates and teachers. You certainly know how to support each other for the year ahead, whatever challenges lie ahead.

We are currently crawling along the infamous A303. A return eta will be emailed out by the office once we leave our pit stop lunch.

Over and out.
