At St Mary’s we learn French from Year 3 onward, in line with National Curriculum requirements. We look to foster a love of languages, with a greater focus on speaking and listening whilst also beginning to write and read. There are also language clubs allowing other languages to be enjoyed across the school, available to some of our younger children too. In Year 6, the children visit Normandy in France and have the opportunity to both practise their French as well as learn more about French culture and traditions. Living in London, we are used to hearing a rich variety of languages around us; here at St Mary’s we typically have over 35 different languages spoken at home – something we celebrate.
