At St Mary’s we bring the study of geography to life through inspiring teaching and learning, fostering
a fascination about our world and its people. Field visits and studies of local (London and Twickenham) and global locations are integral to our curriculum; we use these as opportunities to develop key skills such as map reading, interpreting data and understanding physical processes. We ensure our children have knowledge about their locality and our planet and equip them with the vocabulary necessary to communicate their understanding.
Environmental education forms an important part of our whole school vision – being compassionate for nature. We educate our children to live sustainably and consider their impact on the world. Our school Eco Council work alongside parents and all children to ensure we switch off lights when not needed; reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible; travel sustainably; monitor our food waste; and also learn how to grow our own food.
