“Houses” were introduced at St Mary’s in September 2014.
Our four houses represent significant individuals from the local area: Sir David Attenborough, Virginia Woolf, Sir Mo Farah and Elizabeth Twining.
Pupils from Year 1 up can be awarded house points by any member of staff for good behaviour, excellent work and showing kindness. There will be weekly charts on display in each class where children will tick/sign when they receive a house point. These will be then converted onto house point charts for each individual.
• When 50 points are reached pupils will be given a “Bronze” award in the form of a certificate given out in a celebration assembly.
• When 75 points are reached pupils will be given a “Silver” award in the form of a certificate given out in a celebration assembly.
• When 100 points are reached pupils will be given a “Gold” award in the form of a certificate given out in a celebration assembly.
Children collect points for themselves and for their house.
Houses are also represented in sporting events such as Sports Days and Inter-house Competitions.
Children are allocated houses based on an even gender split and they will stay in those houses for the whole time at St Mary’s. Siblings will be put in the same house. New pupils starting school during the academic year will be allocated houses which have the least numbers.
