St Mary’s has a highly regarded School Travel Plan, which actively encourages the children and staff to choose sustainable ways to travel to school. Our Travel Plan aims to reduce car usage year on year and increase the whole school’s awareness of sustainable travel and healthy lifestyles.
At the Infant site we provide scooter storage, and for those on bicycles there are several bike racks just outside the school gates.
At the middle site we provide ample cycle and scooter parking for staff and pupils.
At the Juniors we provide sheltered bike racks and scooter boxes. We support a range of cross curricular and extra curricular activities that encourage sustainable, safe and healthy lifestyles, such as theatre workshops and bicycle training sessions We have a regular walking bus that operates between the two school sites every morning. Children in Year 2 take part in safe scooter training, Year 3 receive pedestrian training while the Year 6 children take part in bicycle training and we are committed to encouraging less car use for the school journey.
We actively encourage all children to walk, cycle or scoot to school. Cycling, scooting and pedestrian training is provided in years 2, 3, 5 and 6. We want to create a safe environment around the three sites and urge you to leave your car at home. If you have to drive, we ask you to park considerately, and away from the school entrance. Driving onto the Junior site is not allowed, unless you have special permission from the Headteacher. Thank you for you co-operation.
